trilford1 300x165 New Zealand teen gets global recognition for her vision of a sustainable future Brittany Trilford, 17, of Wellington, New Zealand, is the latest sustainabilty champion to achieve celebrity status after a YouTube video she made, The Future I Want, went viral.

Trilford beat out more than 200 people from around the world who entered TckTckTck’s Date with History competition and thereby earned a chance to tell world leaders about a future she would like to see.

The contest was held in anticipation of Earth Summit 2012, which is to take place June 20-22 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  Trilford is scheduled to give a keynote address to more than 130 heads and deputy heads of state on the first morning of the conference.

Trilford concluded her unambiguous plea for a sustainable future by saying “What kind of future do I want?  I want a future where education encourages innovative thinking.  I want a future where we run with natural processes and not against them.  I want a future where leaders will stop talking and start acting.  I want a future where leaders lead.”
